Our Story

The roots of our story reach back to the 1980's,when our founder -Trevor Ellis, first started his journey in the jewellery trade with a prestigious Midlands county Jewellers.His thorough training led to him qualifing as a Gemmologist and his passion for the subject resulted with a distinction grade pass in the Gemmoligical Association of Great Britain qualification examination.

His career then progressed with a move into the wholesale side of the trade,gaining a position with an international gem and jewellery company with offices in London's Hatton Garden and Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter .

In the 1990s, Trevor launched his own business,building on his expertise in diamonds, pearls, and coloured stones, he expanded into antique jewellery and began exporting pieces for some of London’s leading dealers and by 2000, he had established his company in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, becoming one of the largest pearl wholesalers outside London and the area’s only dedicated pearl specialist. His discerning eye for quality and style earned him lasting relationships with retailers and private clients, built on integrity and a passion for fine jewellery.

Wishing to build upon his previous experience in antique jewellery and to expand the business, the Ellison Davies brand name was established in the 2010's with the opening of its first store -also in  Birminghams Jewellery Quarter, specialising in antique, and vintage pre-owned jewellery.

From the heart of this historic area, a hub of creativity and craftsmanship since the 18th century, where the majority of Britains jewellery was made,the business sought out pieces- not simply as items of adornment, but as storytellers - each whispering tales from bygone eras.

We were captivated not merely by their beauty or rarity, but by their historical narratives and personalities. They served as tangible links to the past, offering glimpses into lives filled with love, loss, joy, and adventure. This intimate shop, our genesis, inspired a passion that would shape our path forward. So began our story - anchored in a charming store, shaped by the mesmerising allure of pre-owned and antique jewellery, and driven by a vision to bring these timeless treasures to the world.

Captivated by the timeless elegance of antique and vintage jewels, we embarked on a mission. Our goal was to carefully select and present the finest of such pieces to those who cherished history, exquisite artistry, and sustainability. Though this path was strewn with challenges, our collective passion for sustainable luxury propelled us forward. From sourcing jewels to verifying their origin and maintaining their integrity, every hurdle only strengthened our dedication. Our shared enthusiasm enabled us to navigate the complexities of our journey, turning challenges into lessons and making our voyage ever more rewarding.

Following the Covid 19 pandemic and health issues,Trevor Ellis, the owner of Ellison Davies, took the decision to relocate the business to North Devon, where in the North Devon market town of South Molton a new shop was established.

From here we cater to clients across the UK and abroad. Our meticulously curated collection of antique jewellery goes beyond mere aesthetics or status symbol. Each piece we offer establishes a deep connection to our shared history and pledges towards a sustainable future.

We see ourselves not merely as dealers but custodians of historical treasures. Each heirloom is handpicked, and assessed for its unique craftsmanship, and the epoch it epitomises. Owning a piece from our collection signifies holding a fragment of the past.
